A week or so ago, a rare Eddie Plank PSA 6 sold through Heritage Auctions for $239,000.
The T206 Plank card is the third most valuable baseball card behind Wagner's T206 and Lajoie's 1933 Goudey card.
Although Plank was one of the best pitchers of his day, this is not why his card is so valuable. No one really knows why, but his card is very scarce. Best guess is that there are about 100 of his cards in existence.
Some speculate the printing plate was damaged in some way, but for whatever reason, his card is scarce. Simple Supply and Demand economics at work.
